LLOYD AND WILLIAMS SET FOR SANREMO CHALLENGE

Ioan Lloyd and Sion Williams will contest one of Europe’s most famous rallies in round five of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, Rally Sanremo in Italy this weekend (October 16-18).
Lloyd, 24-years old from Llandysul in West Wales, and his co-driver Williams from North Wales are competing in the all-electric seven-round rally championship in their Vauxhall UK Mokka GSE Rally and currently lead the overall points, seven points ahead of German driver Timo Schulz and 10 points ahead of Frenchman Tom Dufour.
With a total of 70 competitive miles across two and a half days, this is another important event for Lloyd and Williams in a contest where crews count all seven results towards their final score. There are no dropped scores, so Lloyd is determined to finish strongly in all seven rounds.
“This is another fantastic rally,” said Lloyd ahead of the 73rd running Rally Sanremo. “We’ve watched some fantastic old clips of the World Rally Championship days here. The roads just look amazing and I'm really happy to get the opportunity to compete on such an iconic event.”
Rally Sanremo is one of four rallies in the final three months of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup season. Lloyd and Williams will take part in the pre-event recce today (Thursday) before the competition starts on Friday afternoon.
Lloyd said: “There are some proper stages of around 15 miles and it looks absolutely class. I've seen in previous years that if it rains it makes it very tricky. There are lots of challenges and not much room for error. The roads are very technical and as long as we can keep clean and be on pace, then we'll be pretty happy to see Sunday afternoon. Our main aim is just to keep scoring strong points.”
