GERMAN CHALLENGE AWAITS LLOYD AND WILLIAMS

Ioan Lloyd and Sion Williams will head to Germany this weekend (October 30/31) to compete in round six of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, the ADAC Saarland-Pfalz Rally.
Lloyd, 24-years old from Llandysul in West Wales, and his co-driver Williams from North Wales are competing in the all-electric seven-round rally championship in their Vauxhall UK Mokka GSE Rally and currently hold just a two-point lead over main rival Frenchman Tom Dufour in the contest among the junior drivers.
The rally has been re-scheduled from August after being postponed due to the risk of wildfires and runs from a base in the town of Illingen in the south-west of Germany, not far from the French border. After a shakedown on Thursday, the action runs on Friday afternoon and evening and throughout Saturday.
Lloyd says that his key target has to be to try and finish ahead of Dufour. With no dropped scores all seven rounds count, so two strong results on the last two rounds will be critical to the title outcome.
“That's really the only aim now. We’ve got to try and use our heads as well and try and be clever. But of course, we’ve got to try and out-score Tom. We've both got to go at it, but neither of us can afford to make mistakes. So we’ve got to try and keep it clean but put in a good performance as well.”
The route will take in some special stages that were used on WRC Deutschland in the past. “That’s how good the championship is in terms of the array of events,” said Lloyd of another new challenge. “As a driver it's fantastic. The experience you gain from doing this championship is brilliant; not only the way we've had to adapt to the car this year but the events as well have just been fantastic.
“This one is no different and I’m really looking forward to what looks like another great event. Of course, the championship fight is well and truly on now, so we need to try and put in a good performance.”
